    Local Community Engagement

Magis is committed to developing ways for Jesuit-educated alumni to come together for short immersion experiences and occasional service in our local neighborhoods through the Seattle University Youth Initiative.

Service Saturdays at St. Mary's Foodbank

Come together with other Jesuit-educated alumni to serve at St. Mary's Food Bank in Seattle's Central District. The St. Mary's Food Bank provides nutritious food to families and individuals who are struggling with hunger through a variety of services, including the Walk-In Program, where over 6,700 people receive groceries each month. Alumni volunteers commit to assisting with distribution of food, checking-in clients, sorting food items, and participating in a short reflection following service. The Magis group goes the fourth Saturday of the month, and service is from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer or would like to recruit a group of alumni, please email Magis.  Alumni family and children welcome: children seven (7) years or older may participate and must be accompanied by an adult.

National Jesuit Alumni Day of Service

In partnership with Seattle University Alumni Relations, Magis offers alumni of Jesuit universities and colleges an opportunity to serve in the local community in order to bring about a spirit of being men and women for and with others. National Jesuit Alumni Day of Service will send alumni volunteers to nearby Seattle area agency sites where alumni will assist with a variety of tasks. This day of service is part of the National Jesuit Service Initiative, which engages graduates across the nation in shared service which demonstrates the life-changing and enduring power of a Jesuit education. Global Service Immersion Opportunities

    Mexico Mission Trek:
A Global Immersion Program for Jesuit-Educated Alumni

    Tijuana, Baja California (Mexico)

Mexico Mission Trek aims to build a community experience for a group of sixteen (16) Jesuit-educated alumni who will engage in a short-term service immersion with a community in Tijuana, located in Baja California, Mexico, via Esperanza International, a non-profit agency which "cultivates global citizenship through international service experiences in working toward a better world."

Alumni participating in Mexico Mission Trek will work together in service for one week alongside the community in Tijuana in order to:

    • bring about a sense of being men and women for and with others
    • engage in justice education in the form of social analysis and conversation on some of the critical issues impacting the community which they will serve in order to broaden one's scope of understanding on the current realities brought about by Mexico/U.S. relations
    • and reflect on the experience of service with the community in Tijuana and post-trek with each other in order to deepen a commitment to a faith that does justice.

Please email Assistant Director Maria Ochoa with any questions.
