Borrowing From Lemieux

  • Library Patron Responsibilities

    As a borrower of Lemieux Library materials, you are responsible for the following:

    1. All materials checked out on your account.
    2. Knowing the due dates of the materials you have borrowed.
    3. Returning or renewing items on time.
    4. Check your Seattle University email account for notices from the library.
    5. Reporting lost or stolen cards to the library.
    6. Payment of all overdue fines and charges for lost or damaged materials.

    To check out items:

    • Browse the online catalog to locate the item you want on the shelves.
    • Bring the items you want to check out to the circulation desk.
    • Present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport).

    To request items from the Lemieux Library collection:

    • Browse the online catalog.
    • When you find a book or video you want, click the "Request Item" button.
    • Library staff will retrieve the items you request. You will receive an email when your items are ready to be picked up at the library's circulation desk.
    • Present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport).

    To request items from Summit:

    • Browse the Summit Catalog.
    • When you find what you want, click the "Request Summit Item" button, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail when your items are available to pick up at the library's circulation desk. Items usually arrive within 4-6 business days.
    • Present library staff with either your SU campus card or valid picture ID (driver's license or passport).

    To request items from other libraries:

    SU students, faculty and staff may request items not owned by SU, or any other Summit library, through our Interlibrary Loan service. To learn about Interlibrary Loan, please visit our Interlibrary Loan information page.

    Renewable items may be renewed up to 6 times provided no other library patron has requested them. Items may be renewed online, via you library account, or in person at the circulation desk.

    To Renew Items:

    • Books, media and journals may be renewed online, by phone, or in person at the Circulation Desk.
    • To renew items online, visit the library's home page and login to "Your Library Account." Your login is the same username and password you use for SU email.
    • To request a renewal for Interlibrary Loan materials, visit the Interlibrary Loan information page, and follow the instructions. Your login is the same username and password you use for SU email.
    • To renew by phone, please call 206-296-6233. Be prepared to provide your name and university ID number, as well as book titles and barcode numbers.
    • To renew in person at the Circulation Desk, be sure to present your SU campus card or valid picture identification (driver's license or passport).

    Overdue Notices

    • Overdue notices are sent via your Seattle University e-mail account as a courtesy. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exempt you from any charges or account blocks that result from keeping items past due.
    • If an e-mail address is not available, the notice will be sent to the local / campus address on file with these offices:
      • Students with the Registrar
      • Staff with Human Resources
      • Faculty with Academic Contracts
       
    • If your contact information changes, please notify the appropriate university offices and the library.

    Overdue Fines

    • Overdue Fines will be assessed on Lemieux Course Reserves, Summit, and Inter-Library Loan materials.

    Lemieux Course Reserves - 1 hour, 4 hour, and 24 hour $1.00 per item, per hour
    Lemieux Course Reserves - 3 day $5.00 per item, per day
    Laptops - 3 hour $10.00 per item
    Summit Materials $.50 per item, per day for first 10 days. $1.00 per item, per day for subsequent days.
    Interlibrary Loan Materials $.50 per item, per day for first 10 days. $1.00 per item, per day for subsequent days.

    Lost/Damaged Charges

    • Lemieux Library items more than 15 days overdue are deemed lost and charges will be assessed to your account.
    • Summit items more than 30 days overdue are deemed lost and charges will assessed to your account.
    • Interlibrary Loan items more than 7 days overdue are deemed lost. Charges will be assessed to your account after a bill is received from the lending library.

    • Unpaid charges will result in one or more of the following:
      • suspension or cancellation of library privileges
      • blocks on registration, transcripts, and diplomas
       
    • Lemieux Library will not accept replacement copies of materials in lieu of payment.
    • Payments may be made in cash, by check or by money order.
    • Checks and money orders must be payable to "Seattle University Library."
    • Questions about lost/damaged charges can be directed to the Circulation Department at 206-296-6233.

    Alumni Borrowing

    Alumni are always welcome at the Lemieux Library & McGoldrick Learning Commons. While some services such as Summit and Interlibrary Loan borrowing, and off campus access to library databases are not available once you graduate, we want to continue to make you feel connected to Seattle University through the library. To borrow material from Lemieux Library, please visit the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of the library. You will need to show a valid picture ID (driver’s license or passport) to set up your alumni borrowing account. This ID will be your borrower’s card and must be presented to check out material. Books, media (DVD/VHS/CD), and periodicals from the general collection may be borrowed, with a maximum of 6 items checked out at any time. Books are loaned for 6 weeks, and media and periodicals are loaned for 6 days with no renewals.
