Borrowing from the Interim Library

General Information

To check out items from the Interim Library:

1. Browse the online catalog.

2. When you find a book or video you want, click the button.  (It is near the upper-left corner of the screen when viewing the web page for a specific book or video.)

3. Library staff will retrieve the items you request, and you'll receive an e-mail when they are available to pick up at the library's circulation desk.  Bring an SU campus card or a valid driver’s license to check out materials.

You also have access to over 27 million items from other libraries through our consortium, Summit.  You can request a book directly from Summit by using the "Request Summit Item" button. Items usually arrive within 4-6 business days. You'll receive an e-mail when your items are available to pick up at the library's circulation desk.

You are responsible for all materials checked out on your card; please do not loan your card to anyone. Report lost or stolen cards to the library immediately.

You are also responsible for knowing the due dates of the materials you have borrowed and for returning or renewing all items on time.

  • Alumni may request applications at Lemieux Library's Circulation Desk or at the alumni office (Room 120 of the Administration Building).
  • Applications must be approved by the alumni office before alumni may borrow books.
  • Alumni may check out a maximum of 6 books for 3 weeks.
  • Alumni may access ONLY books (no other materials).

These conditions are subject to change at any time.

Renewals

A Lemieux Library book may be renewed 3 times provided no other library patron has requested it. Other material may not be renewed.

Books may be renewed online, in person at the Circulation Desk or by phone (206-296-6233).

Online access to renewals, items already checked out, due dates, unpaid fines, and holds is available by clicking on "View Your Library Account" on the library's home page. Logins require patron name and university ID preceded by two zeros (9 digit number).

If you prefer to renew in person at the Circulation, be sure to present your SU campus card or driver's license.

If you prefer to renew by phone (at 206-296-6233), be prepared to provide book barcode numbers and titles, your name and university ID number or social security number. If the desk is busy, you may be asked to call back.

Overdue Notices

Overdue notices are sent via e-mail as a courtesy to university assigned e-mail address for each borrower. If an e-mail address is not available, the notice will be sent to the local / campus address on record held by these offices:

  • Students.........................................................Registrar
  • Staff.................................................Human Resources
  • Faculty..........................................Academic Contracts

Notify the appropriate office if you move. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exempt you from fines.

Fines and Replacement Charges

Fines are assessed to encourage prompt return of library materials. Fines apply all days and all hours the library is open and accrue until the item is returned.

  • General books ................20 cents per item per day
  • General journals..............20 cents per item per day
  • General videos......................1.00 per item per day
  • Reserve materials (hourly loans)..1.00 per item per hour
  • Reserve materials (daily loans)....1.00 per item per day
  • Summit items......................50 cents per item per day for the first 10 days; $1.00 per item per day for subsequent days

Lemieux Library items more than 30 days overdue are deemed lost and replacement charges and processing fees will be assessed. Book replacement charges are $58. Journal and video replacement fees will be the actual cost to replace the item; since videos are generally much more expensive than books, exercise special care of and attention to these items. A processing fee of $10 is added to all replacement charges.

Summit items more than 30 days overdue are deemed lost and replacement charges and processing fees will be assessed in accordance with Alliance policy. Replacement charges start at $75 and a processing fee of $15 is added to all replacement charges.

Unpaid fines and replacement charges will result in one or more of the following:

  • suspension or cancellation of library privileges
  • blocks on registration, transcripts, diplomas

Fines and replacement charges must be paid at the Circulation Desk. Payments may be made in cash, by check or by money order. Checks and money orders must be payable to Seattle University Library.
