are for Windows. Click here for Mac OS X instructions.
Step 1: Prepare to download
- Print this web page so you can follow these
instructions from a piece of paper.
- Quit all programs on your computer (except
this web browser).
- Ensure that you are the administrator on
your computer so that you can install the software.
Step 2: Download two files to your computer (you will be prompted to log in with your SU ID and password for these files)
- Download sfs2007.exe
(40.2 MB) and save it to your computer (on the desktop or
in a temporary folder).
- Download site.prf and SAVE it to your desktop. DO NOT open this file! It will alter preferences on your computer if you open it.
- Use the "sfs2007.exe" icon to install
the SciFinder software. You can do this by:
- Double-clicking the icon on the desktop,
in Windows Explorer, or in My Computer, or
- Choosing Run from your Start menu, typing
in the full path to the file, and clicking OK.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
We recommend the following:
- Accept the default folder destination: C:\SFSCHLR
- Accept the "Typical" installation default
- When asked "Do you have a disk labeled
Custom Site Files?" -- Click NO
- Move the "site.prf" file into your SciFinder
Scholar application folder, which is normally the SFSCHLR
folder on your C: drive. You can do this by dragging it
into the folder. Again, do NOT open the "site.prf"
file.
- To open SciFinder Scholar, either:
- Navigate to it using the Start menu (lower
left corner of your computer screen): Start
> Programs > SciFinder Scholar 2007 > SciFinder
Scholar, or
- Double-click on the SciFinder Scholar
icon.
