4. Market Research. How do I find information on companies and industries?

Hint: Financial disclosure for public and private companies differ. Usually, public companies issue stock and file their financial information with the SEC. It is harder to find information on private companies; you may only be able to find directory information. Under some circumstances private companies do file with the SEC.

Hint: Use these sources to find competitors, industry and company trends and financials.

Global Market Information Database The GMID contains information on key business intelligence on countries, companies, markets and consumers for over 350 markets and 207 countries. In addition to demographic and economic statistics, the GMID also includes statistical and full-text analysis on consumer lifestyles, retailing, countries, consumer market sizes and forecasts, market analysis reports, company profiles and information sources. The historic and forecast data enable you analyze trends from 1977-2016. Although its focus is on international retailing, searches can be limited to US.
SimplyMap

Internet mapping tool which allows uses to develop interactive maps and reports using thousands of demographic, business and marketing data. Data is from the US Bureau of the Census as well as from the Consumer Expenditure Survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Business and marketing data includes EASI information as well as Mediamark's MRI Survey of Consumers.
