Find Articles
> How to find an Article
1. Search a database.
A database is a tool used to look for articles relevant to your
research. A database search will always provide citations
(the source of the article), though only some search results will include abstracts
(brief descriptions of the article's content), and/or full-text
(the article in its entirety). Articles in full-text can be printed directly from
the database.
Using a database can be pretty confusing because there are so
many ways to tailor your search. The following guide does a great job of explaining
the different search modifiers, such as the "and/or/not" of boolean
searches, truncated searches, wildcards, etc.
A Primer on
Databases and Catalogs, created by the University System of Georgia
Lemieux Library subscribes to a variety of online databases, many
of which are dedicated to a specific subject. We also provide links to databases
that are full-text only.
View an alphabetical list of our databases, or browse the databases by subject.
Use of Lemieux Library's electronic resources
is subject to U.S. Copyright Law. Excessive downloading, printing, and/or electronic
dissemination of resource content by the user is prohibited. Access and use is
restricted by license agreements to purposes of research, teaching, and private
study by current SU faculty, staff, and students; all commercial use is strictly
prohibited. Restrictions on other uses may apply. Fair use guidelines are specifically
applicable to use of information in a University setting. For additional information
please refer to the "University
Copyright Policy & Guidelines" and the "Lemieux
Library's Copyright Statement."
2. Not in full-text?
If you have found an item that looks interesting but it is not
available full-text from the database you are searching, write down the citation
and you can look to see if we subscribe to the source periodical. Some databases
will let you know if we do, but if not click on Find
Journals & More to search our periodical lists.
3. Not in Lemieux? Try Interlibrary Loan.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a cooperative
service in which materials are made available by one library to another for the
use of its patrons. Requests may be submitted by Seattle University students,
faculty, administrators and staff for articles which are not in our collection
and which are needed for research, term papers and scholarly reading. ILL involves
submitting a form that includes your contact information
so we can notify you when the article arrives.
