Expectations
of Library Users (Rules of The House)
The A.A. Lemieux Library Building is a private facility
that supports the educational needs of the students, faculty, and
staff of Seattle University. Limited access and services may be
provided to members of institutions and organizations with whom
Seattle University maintains formal reciprocal relationships and
to Academic Colleagues and Visitors who find portions of our collection
useful for their temporary research needs. The university controls
access to and use of this facility in accordance with university
and library policies.
Regardless of the category of library user, individuals on the
premises of the A.A. Lemieux Library Building are expected to comply
with standards of behavior befitting a mature, academic community.
- Conduct yourself in a manner that is not disruptive to other
library users or library staff.
- Trespassing, vandalism, sexually suggestive or harassing behavior,
and making unwanted advances are prohibited and will result in
criminal prosecution.
- Sleeping creates unsafe and disruptive conditions and is not
permitted in the library building.
- Report immediately any dangerous or prohibited activity or condition
to library staff or Seattle University Public Safety. Public Safety
may be reached at ext.5990 on the campus phones located in the
1st & 2nd floor lobbies and next to the 3rd & 4th floor
elevators.
- Animals are not permitted in the facility, except registered
service animals.
- No smoking.
- All beverages must be in closed containers, and only light,
dry, snack foods are permitted, except refreshments provided as
part of a University-catered event. We balance personal convenience
with protection of library materials, furniture, and equipment.
- Keep library areas clean. Place all trash in an appropriate
trash or recycling receptacle. If you see a mess or spill, report
it to library staff immediately.
- If you must engage in cell phone conversation, please do so
in an area where you will not disrupt other library users.
The SU Department of Public Safety will assist library
staff in monitoring compliance with these expectations. Enforcement
measures will include a request to modify behavior, removal from
the facility, and/or arrest and prosecution.
