The Library provides access to services and information
resources for disabled students, faculty, staff and visitors. To

Entrances
Main entrance access is from
the West Entrance on the 2nd Floor (entrance facing Arrupe
Jesuit Residence): Automated door provides wheelchair access to
the Library entrance. As you face the library entrance, wheelchair
access is to the left of the staircase. If you are unable to unfasten
the rope across the disabled entrance, ask a staff member at the
Circulation or Reference Desk to assist you.
Note: Upon exiting the
library, if you cannot navigate the security exit gate, a physical
check will be performed.
Access from the 1st Floor East
Entrance (entrance facing Student Center, Bellermine): Automated
door provides wheelchair access to the library's first floor: Reading
Room, Schafer Auditorium, Stimpson Room and McNulty Collegium. Take
the elevator to the 2nd Floor which is the main entrance of the
Library.
Restrooms
There are ADA compliant restrooms on the 1st Floor
of Lemieux Library.
Elevators
Two elevators provide access to all floors of Lemieux
Library. The 1st floor elevator provides service between the 1st
floor of the building (Reading Room, Schafer Auditorium, Stimpson
Room and McNulty Collegium) and the 2nd floor of the building which
is the main entrance to Lemeiux library. An elevator located inside
the main entrance to the library on the 2nd floor provides service
to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the Library.
Study Carrels
A wheelchair accessible study carrel is located on
the 3rd Floor (331C).
Computers and technology
Two wheelchair accessible workstations (#22 and #8)
are available in our computer area located behind the reference
desk on the 2nd floor of the Library.
Lemieux Library offers one ADA compliant low vision
computer for visually impaired and learning disabled students, faculty
and staff. The computer is located in Lemieux Library Room 202 and
a key to Room 202 is available at the Reference Desk. The following
software is installed on the computer:
- Jaws for Windows, Version 3.5.25: JAWS creates
an audio interface for blind or visually impaired users. JAWS
is a screen-reading software where the computer reads aloud the
contents of a document, gives the name of an icon or menu item
that an user selects, or identifies the current action a user's
application is doing.
- OpenBook, Version 4.01: OpenBook is a screen-reading
application for visually impaired users. The application will
scan a document, display the document on a screen and then read
the document aloud.
- Zoom Text Xtra!, Version 7.01 Level 2: Zoom Text
Xtra! is adaptive software for users who, because of visually
impairments, require assistance using a computer and seeing document
contents. Zoom Text Xtra! can magnify and read aloud screen contents.
Hardware available at this workstation includes a
computer with 19” Trinitron Monitor,
Kensington Orbit Trackball, a Microtek ScanMaker 4 Scanner, Harman/Kardon
Speakers and a HP DeskJet 880C printer. If you have questions about

Item Retrieval
Library materials may be retrieved by staff in advance
of a Library visit or while you wait. Arranging for materials to
be retrieved prior to your visit allows us extra time to retrieve
your items and decreases the amount of time you have to wait while
items are retrieved.
Advance requests: Call
(206- 296-6233) or fax (206- 296-2572) the Circulation Desk. The
following information should be included in the request for library
items: 1. Title of item, 2. Call number of item, 3. Your name, 4.
Your SU ID number, 5. Time you will pick up materials.
In-person requests:
Make in-person request for Library items at the Circulation Desk
by providing the above information. In-person requests are filled
as soon as possible, based upon staff availability and the amount
of material requested.
Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary loan is a cooperative service in which
materials are made available by one library to another for the use
of patrons. Requests may be submitted by Seattle University students,
faculty, administrators and staff for materials which are not in
the collection and which are needed for research, term papers and
