Lunches with Leaders

  • This monthly lunch series brings campus and community leaders from a wide variety of paths to campus to meet with students in a small, intimate setting. Whether you're interested in business, social issues, politics or science, leadership is present. Learn from our speakers' stories and how they found their particular calling.

    Speaker Stephanie Garbaczewski, Event management professional.
    Stephanie currently consults for multiple projects around the US. With over 10 years of experience, Stephanie has managed hundreds of events ranging in size from 75 to 100,000 attendees, and produced events for notable clients such as Olympic/Paralympic Games, Anheuser Busch, Southern Comfort, Luis Palau, PCMA, and Starbucks. Stephanie most recently served as the Venue Operations Manager for the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, where she was responsible for overseeing operational planning and delivery for the most complex temporary venue of the Games: Greenwich Park. She received a Bachelors of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara and her Event Management Certification from the University of San Diego and George Washington University.

    Speaker Dan Hagedorn, Senior Curator and Director of Collections for the Museum of Flight
    Dan has found what he is most passionate about. However, this journey to find his passion took time. Prior to coming to the Museum of Flight, Hagedorn served as both Research Team Leader and Adjunct Curator for Latin American Aviation at the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. He came to that position following a 27 year career in the United States Armed Forces. Dan graduated from the University of New York, the United States Army Command and General Staff College as well as the Modern Archives Institute, National Archives. Now, in addition to working as Curator and Director of Collections at the Museum of Flight, Dan is co-chair of the Programs Committee for the Smithsonian’s annual Mutual Concerns of Air and Space Museums conference. He will be discussing the evolvement of his vocational passion.

    Speaker Laura Adriance, Director of Youth Programming for the World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom program. She taught elementary school in both New York and Washington and worked with future teachers in the University of Washington’s teacher education program. As part of her Peace Corps service, she conducted professional development for teachers in rural Namibia. She holds a Masters degree in elementary education from Columbia University and a PhD in education from the University of Washington. Laura is particularly passionate about supporting teachers in their efforts to help students learn about the world beyond our borders and truly become global citizens.
