Seattle University and the ISSC provide assistance to visiting faculty and researchers from around the world. These distinguished international visitors contribute to the University's academic objectives, and enhance the rich diversity and cosmopolitan character of the institution.
Exchange Visitors (J-1 visa status)
The University's Exchange Visitor Program sponsors foreign nationals as temporary members of the academic staff for short-term teaching/lecturing, observing, conducting research, or consulting.
"Specialty Occupation" Workers (H-1B visa status)
The H-1B nonimmigrant category is for professionals who will perform services in a specialty occupation, and is frequently used by SU academic departments to hire temporary faculty and researchers.
Professionals from Canada and Mexico (TN status)
The TN (Trade NAFTA) status permits Canadian and Mexican citizens to work for Seattle University in a professional occupation on a temporary basis. Only occupations specified in the NAFTA treaty can serve as the basis for TN employment.
