IRB Human Subjects Training

All protocol submissions must be accompanied by a current (within the past three years) certificate of completed human subjects training. It is the PI's responsibility to maintain records of current certification -- the IRB does not keep a list or record of individual certification.

As of January 1, 2013, the IRB is no longer accepting NIH training for human subjects certification. To submit a protocol, all PIs and faculty advisers must provide CITI certification. Please allow sufficient time (approximately 3-5 hrs) to complete the CITI program when preparing protocol submissions for the new year. Faculty/Staff PIs should complete all the modules in the Basic human subjects course. Student PIs must complete all the modules in the Student course to submit protocols. Faculty Advisers must complete the modules in the Faculty Advisers course in order to be able to sign off on student protocols. IRB Members must complete the modules designated for IRB Members. Click on the links below for more information on the listed training programs.

  •  Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative[Click here to attain CITI Certification]
As of January 1, 2013, all Seattle University faculty, staff and student investigators submitting protocols to the IRB for review must complete the CITI online training program. A copy of the CITI training certificate must be included with the protocol. After you complete the training, please print or download a copy of the CITI certificate to attach to protocol submissions and keep a copy for your records.
