Seattle University is both legally obligated and ethically committed to providing a safe and healthy living, learning and working environment. As university faculty and staff, we are each responsible for demonstrating integrity and respect in our daily activities and in the performance of our professional responsibilities. Knowledge and awareness are the essential guides for our actions.
All Seattle University faculty and staff must periodically complete required awareness training programs provided by the university. The following learning and workplace programs are required at this time: FERPA, Data Privacy, and Harassment and Discrimination Prevention.
We recently lauched new online training resources to educate and update faculty and staff on university policies, guidelines and applicable laws.
Student Employee FERPA training can be accessed through Student Employment Services.
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety in Facilities Services maintains, conducts, and coordinates campus-wide environmental safety programs, including: Health and Safety Resources, and Safety and Ergonomics Training Programs.

It's a great time to nail down professional objectives for the next performance evaluation cycle and/or fiscal year. This workshop explores adaptability to change - how to develop your own adaptability and to foster it in others, thereby becoming more effective for yourself, the people you lead and your organization. LEADING EFFECTIVE MEETINGS. TARGET AUDIENCE: INDIVIDIUALS RESPONSIBLE FOR FACILITATING ON-CAMPUS MEETINGS. We spend so much time in meetings! This session provides tips, tools and exercises to hone your meeting management and facilitation skills. Dates/Times 5/23 9:00 - 11:30am & 6/12 2:00 - 4:30pm
Friday Lunch and Learns for Supervisors
TIME MATTERS - what every supervisor needs to know about managing non-exempt staff in WA State. TARGET AUDIENCE: SUPERVISORS OF SU STAFF AND DEPT/DIVISION MANAGEMENT. This lunch and learn provides overview of wage and hour policies followed by informal discussion, Q&A. Lunch will be provided. Date/Time 5/10 12:00-1:30 pm
READY, SET... HIRE - Gearing up to select and onboard Spring/Summer new hires. TARGET AUDIENCE: SUPEVISORS OF SU STAFF AND DEPT/DIVISION MANAGEMENT. Lunch and learn will cover HR assistance with staff recruitment and tips for managers on setting new staff up for success at SU. Lunch will be provided. Date/Time 5/24 12:00-1:30

Participant Registration and Fee Guidelines
Most programs offered by Seattle University Human Resources Professional and Organizational Development are centrally funded with no participation fee charged to staff or faculty.
Participants are expected to register for each program they wish to attend at least 3 business days in advance. Fees may be charged for lack of advance registration. To register go to "Upcoming Events" (right margin of this page) and select the specific workshop and date you would like to attend. Follow the RSVP instructions outlined in the Event Details.
Registered participants are expected to attend the full workshop. Registered participants unable to attend are expected to cancel their registration at least 3 business days in advance. To cancel a registration, email hrtraining@seattleu.edu
Effective July 2012, an employee's department may be charged a $25 fee in cases where she/he
- Registers, does not show up for a program and fails to cancel participation at least 3 business days prior to the workshop.
- Attends the workshop but fails to register at least 3 business days prior to the workshop.

“Service in Action Seminar Series” through the Institute of Public Service The Master of Public Administration and Executive Master of Nonprofit Leadership programs present an annual Service in Action Seminar Series. This series provides nonprofit and public service professionals with continuing education opportunities and access to current trends. Seattle University staff and faculty are welcome to participate in the series. Seminar fee sponsorships are available for Seattle University employees. “Leading with Dignity” through the Center for Leadership Formation The Leading with Dignity, program is a set of short courses offered by The Albers Center for Leadership Formation. These short courses are designed to take organizational leaders from their current positions of responsibility and elevate them to the next level for increased impact and significance. Course registration and sponsorship for Seattle University employees is coordinated through Professional and Organizational Development.
