Apply for the Residence Halls (Bellarmine, Campion, Chardin, and Xavier)

Housing and Residence Life is a part of Student Development and is responsible for the overall coordination of Seattle University's residential experience. Our staff is comprised of people who enjoy working with students. Each residence hall has a full-time professional residence hall director (RHD) with extensive training and education in student learning and development. The RHD supervises two resident assistants (RAs) per floor who provide leadership, serve as a student resource, plan social and educational activities, and help develop community on the floor. In addition to the residence hall staff, there is either a Jesuit faulty or staff member who serves as a Jesuit-in-Residence or a Residential Minister on each floor. Together, the aim is to provide safe, secure and well-maintained residence halls with diverse living options that foster student learning, development and community living.

As a residential campus, committed to the education of the whole person, the residential experience is considered an integral part of a student's education. Research shows that students who belong to a campus residential community have a more productive and more satisfying college experience than those who live off campus. Thus, all first- and second-year undergraduate student are required to live on campus and purchase a meal plan unless they are: commuting from the home of their parent or legal guardian, over 21 years of age, married or have children. All full-time matriculated Seattle University students are eligible to reside on campus. Juniors and seniors are strongly encouraged to live on campus and choose to do so as space in available.

Research over the past 40 years indicates that college students who live on campus are more likely to:

  • Take full advantage of campus resources
  • Be more involved in campus activities and educational programs
  • Take more credits per quarter
  • Achieve greater academic success
  • Persist to graduate at a higher rate
  • Be more satisfied with their overall university experience

The student must be registered as a full-time matriculated student at the University and must be at least 17 years of age at the commencement of his/her occupancy.
