Just before 8 a.m. on March 5, Seattle University faculty, staff, students and administrators participated in an earthquake and evacuation drill as part of a regional, multi-agency effort. The exercise, dubbed Sound Shake '08, tested the emergency alert systems in place at SU, which include e-mail and voicemail alerts and broadcast messages. Building marshals were set up at designated evacuation areas throughout campus. While only a drill, such exercises are critical to assess and improve preparedness in the event of an actual earthquake or other natural disaster.
