Clubs and organizations

Join the club

Evoking the spirit of a street fair, all student clubs and organizations set up booths outside the Student Center early in the fall quarter to talk about their activities and recruit new members. Competition for attention can be tough, so many clubs hand out food and mementos to stand out in the crowd. One group sets up a barbecue and offers s'mores to anyone willing to roast a marshmallow. Another gives away art posters. Chances are you'll find one and maybe more clubs that fit your style. Over 80 clubs range in focus from community service, cultural heritage, and honor societies to professional development and recreation. The list includes Habitat for Humanity, Vietnamese Students Association, SU Bike Club, Photography Club, Black Student Union, Outdoor Recreation Club, and the Society of Women Engineers.

Redhawks

Twelve varsity Redhawk teams compete in the NCAA Division II, and there's a place for everyone in the thriving club and intramural sports program. Varsity sports include men's and women's basketball, cross-country, soccer, swimming, track, and women's softball and volleyball.

Seattle University varsity teams have scored some important milestones. Men's soccer won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) championship title in 1997. The team topped that feat in December 2004 when it scored the NCAA Division II National Championship. The team ended its 2004 regular and post-season action undefeated, becoming only the 31st team in Division II history to win 20 games in a single season.

Other NCAA accomplishments include a Division II Women's Soccer Elite Eight National Championship finish and a Division II Men's and Women's Swimming Top 20 National Championship Finish. The swim team also produced Seattle University's first Division II All-American in 2003 and NAIA coach of the year honors for Craig Mallery in 1999 and 2000.

Seattle University recognizes the value of athletics in achieving a balanced education. To this end, the school recently approved a $37.5 million renovation of the Connolly Center, which will include a redesigned Athletics and Recreation Center.
