Financial aid

The following is a summary of some of the financial aid opportunities available to enrolled Seattle University students. Please contact Student Financial Services to learn more.

Grants

Grants are funds which you do not need to repay. Seattle University is pleased to award Federal Grants: the Federal Pell Grant; and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant; State Grants: the Washington State Need Grant; and the Educational Opportunity Grant; and Institutional Grants: Seattle University Grants. Seattle University students participating in Army, Air Force, or Navy ROTC may receive ROTC grants.

Loans

Student loans are generally interest-free while the student is in school, and low interest during the repayment period. Payments may be deferred or forgiven based on certain conditions set by the federal government. Student loans must be repaid. In general, however, the terms are far more favorable than commercially available loans.

There are a number of loans available through the Student Financial Services Office at Seattle University. These include Federal Direct Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins, Federal Nursing Loan, Federal Direct PLUS loan for Parents, Alaska Loan, Private Educational Loans and loans for Past Due Accounts.

Work Study

Our work-study programs offer students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning money for college. Students are able to enhance their current course work as well as their future profession by integrating classroom learning with real-world work experience. Because Seattle-area employers are eager to participate in the program, there are usually more work-study jobs available than students to fill them.

Based on the availability of funds, priority awarding is to undergraduate students who complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the university priority deadline, February 1st.
