Readmission | non-degree seeking applicants

Readmission

Readmitting graduate applicants are students who have been absent from Seattle University for four or more consecutive quarters and wish to return to the same graduate program in which they were last enrolled.

International students on an F-1 or J-1 visa must apply for readmission if they are absent for one quarter, unless that quarter is summer.

If you are now seeking a different program than when previously enrolled, you must submit a new application.

Admission requirements

  • If additional course work has been taken since last attending Seattle University, request that official transcripts from those colleges and universities be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office. Transcripts must remain sealed in the issuing institution’s envelope in order to be considered official.
  • Applications are subject to the review and discretion of the academic department and the Director of Graduate Admissions; therefore, readmission is not guaranteed. Additional documents may be requested.
  • Should changes in the program or curriculum have occurred in your absence, you will be required to complete the new curriculum as listed in the Graduate Bulletin of Information in effect at the time of readmission.

For application procedures refer to the readmission application.

Please see our policy regarding readmission requirements.

Non-degree seeking

Type 1 student

A visiting student enrolled in a graduate degree program at another institution with permission to take no more than two quarters or 12 transfer credits of graduate course work as a non-degree seeking student at Seattle University. Although the student intends to transfer those credits to his/her graduate program, Seattle University assumes no responsibility for advising such students for the applicability of the courses to the student's degree.

Type 2 student

A non-degree seeking student taking graduate course work because of special interest or an unusual delay in his/her regular application to a graduate program at Seattle University. Programs in Albers School of Business & Economics, Educational Leadership, Executive Nonprofit Leadership, Master in Teaching and Psychology do not normally permit TYPE 2 non-degree seeking students. The School of Theology and Ministry does not typically admit students who intend to apply to one of their degree programs at a later date. Contact STM for other options.

International students on an F-1 visa are not normally permitted TYPE 2 non-degree seeking status unless during a break from their current institution. Applicants with F-1 status at another institution must provide a copy of their current I-20.

Admission requirements

  • Transcript showing a posted bachelor's or master's degree from a regionally accredited institution. Submit transcripts reflecting any relevant post-bachelor's course work or degrees. (Unofficial or photocopied transcripts are acceptable for non-degree seeking application.)
  • Grade point average, course work, or other evidence of the ability to do graduate level course work.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English is required of all applicants for whom English is not their original language, unless applicant earned a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S. college and remained in residence in a primarily English-speaking country for two years prior to applying. We accept TOEFL, IETS and MELAB scores as evidence of English skills.

In addition to the documents above, Type 1 applicants must also submit:

  • Transcript from the current institution where you are seeking a degree
