Information about cost and insurance
Eligibility & Cost
All enrolled Seattle University students are eligible for consultation and treatment at the Student Health Center.
Payment Policies
As of July 1, 2009 the Student Health Center will charge a $5.00 co-pay for every visit with our health care-providers. This does not include vaccinations or TB skin tests.
There are minimal charges for some services like labs, medications, and certain procedures. Services provided outside the Health Center are the responsibility of the student. Payment is required at the time services are rendered. We accept cash, checks and Credit/debit cards (Visa and Mastercard only).
Frequent Q's and A's about Payment Policies
Q: I heard that everything at the health center is free for students. Is this really true?
A: There is a $5.00 co-pay for students to see medical providers for consultation and treatment at the Seattle University Student Health Center. At most other medical clinics there is a flat office visit charge of around $100.00 that does not include medications, lab charges, and exam charges.
Q: What do I have to pay for?
A: Aside from the $5.00 co-pay per visit, there are charges for medications, laboratory tests, immunizations (including flu shots), special surgical procedures, annual exams, and general physical exams. Our prices are much lower than at regular medical clinics and pharmacies. We are a non-profit health center and keep our prices as low as possible so that all students can benefit from using the health center.
Q: How can I pay?
A: Cash or check only at the time of your visit. Students must pay for services, medications, and laboratory tests at the time of their visit. Students can pay by cash on check only. We are not able to accept credit cards or the Campus card.
Q: I have student insurance. Doesn't this cover all of the charges?
A: Perhaps. The S.U. Student Insurance Plan is on reimbursement basis. If you are covered under the student insurance plan and have received medical services, you must submit any receipts and/or bills to the Claims Administrator for processing. Note: Claim forms are NOT required for students insured under the Undergraduate, Graduate, Part Time and Law student insurance plans. Please be sure to include your name and the medical identification # found on your medical card on all the receipts and bills. The Claims Administrator will review your claims and respond to you with an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), indicating whether they need additional information to approve the claim or if they have processed the claim. For more information on the covered benefits and exclusions please refer to your Student Health Insurance Plan brochure or call the numbers listed for the various plans on the bar to the left. If you are an International Student, Summit America Insurance does require a claim form. You can print these on this page to your left.
