Academic Representatives

The GSC is currently looking for Academic Representatives for 2012-2013!

Responsibilities: 

Academic Representatives serve as a direct connection between their academic school/college and the GSC, accurately conveying the needs of the student population. Representatives are expected to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with their school/college Dean’s office, faculty, and graduate student organizations. 

Meeting Attendance:  

  • Attend bi-monthly GSC meetings, Thursdays 4:30-5:45pm 
  • Attend GSC committee meetings as scheduled 
  • Meet quarterly with the Dean/Associate Dean of your academic school/college 
  • Attend retreats, in-service workshops, and council development activities 
  • Attend and participate in special events as needed, such as the quarterly Graduate Student Welcome 
  • Represent graduate students on various campus committees as needed 

Council Participation: 

  • Serve as a liaison between the GSC and your academic school/college Serve and actively participate on a GSC committee (Academic Relations, Marketing and 
  • Communications, Community Relations, or Finance and Strategic Planning) 
  • Represent the council to other students, University administration, faculty and other constituencies 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently registered and enrolled as a graduate student at Seattle University 
  • Passion for improving graduate student life at Seattle University 
  • Demonstrated commitment to Seattle University’s mission and values  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Flexible schedule 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with student advocacy 
  • Knowledge of Seattle University organization and structure 

Hours:

This position requires a commitment of at least 5 hours per week and periodic availability during university hours.

Representatives are expected to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with appropriate stakeholders and graduate student organizations.  

At-Large Representative Positions: 

  • Parent Student Representative 
  • International Student Representative 
  • Veteran Student Representative
