May 18, 2012 at the Garage – Saint Ignatius School RwandaCampaign
The school is a vision by Fr. Jean-Baptiste Ganza, S.J. whois a recent graduate of the MBA program as well as one of the Jesuit Priestsassigned to Seattle University. Throughout Fr. Ganza’s time as graduate student at SU, he has touchedmany of his classmates as a caring, intelligent friend that has a refreshingpositive outlook on life in spite of the horrendous events in his countryduring the early 1990’s.
A cohort of 10 of Fr. Ganza’s classmates have decided toorganize an event that will both raise funds for his school and gather studentsand alumni together to celebrate our friendship with Fr. Ganza and all that hehas done for us and SU. We areplanning to have over 100 students from the graduate programs in the Albersschool as well as the College of Education and the School of Theology andMinistry. We are hoping to raiseapproximately $2,500 from the event alone, plus an additional $7,500 from otherfund raising events.
The idea was developed in winter quarter 2012 when a groupof Ganza’s friends were discussing ways to engage the graduating students. We felt that one missing element fromthe graduate school experience was a capstone experience that would allowstudents to close out their careers at SU by giving back to the school and/oreach other. We realized that wewere privileged to have Fr. Ganza as a classmate, and felt that the graduatestudents would appreciate an opportunity to give back to both Fr. Ganza and SUthrough his philanthropy.
We have established ambassadors whose goal is to spread the word aboutthe St. Ignatius School. Theambassadors will help collect money, and post blogs about their experienceswith Fr. Ganza. These blogs can befound at: http://saintignatiusrwanda.wordpress.com/
