Purpose:  To provide an internal review of grant proposals giving confidential, constructive, and timely feedback for the improvement of proposals prior to submission.

Who is eligible?  Full time faculty or administrators at Seattle University who have had one or more grants and who have participated in the proposal review process of one or more funding agencies (reviewed a proposal, participated in a review panel, or served on a grant board).  Note: if you have not served in the proposal review process but have submitted one or more proposals, contact the ORSSP and we will nominate you to serve for the agency of relevance to your academic field.  All who have done this agree that it is an invaluable experience, and then you will be qualified to join the SU community of internal reviewers.

What is the process for internal review of a proposal? You will be sent the proposal along with the program guidelines, the review criteria, and a review form including confidentiality statement.  Within 72 hours, read the proposal, fill out the review form, and/or annotate the proposal giving feedback to the author.  This feedback consists of suggestions received at the option of the author.

How do I benefit from being a part of this community?  First, we will thank you for reviewing the proposal with a $25 gift card to the SU Bookstore.  Or, if you review a number of proposals, we will periodically have a check issued for your cumulative service.  (Note:  if it is necessary to review a proposal more than once, you will receive a thank-you gift for each review).  Secondly, we will have grant writing and proposal review workshops that will continue to build your credential and service in this arena.  Best of all, this service will enhance your own grant writing skills.  Finally, each year there will be a thank-you event for all involved in proposals, grants, or the internal review process (we are thinking of a luncheon with an external speaker on some aspect of the grant process).  Hopefully, our community will receive the satisfaction of improvement in our success rate which in turn will give us more time to engage in scholarship.
