These awards recognize students whose actions serve as an
inspiration to others. Recipients inspire in one or more of the following
ways:
- Giving of their time and energy as a member of a group (unsung hero).
- Taking initiative on a project or issue and make an impact through one significant effort.
- Balancing involvement, academics and life responsibilities successfully.
- Taking a courageous stand on an issue.
- Overcoming circumstances and challenges in their academic journey.
- Building connections among communities.
This award recognizes graduating students, both undergraduate and graduate, whose outstanding contributions have spanned their time at Seattle University. Their commitment to service, involvement, and academic excellence within the campus community exemplifies their ability to transform future communities and their willingness to work for a better and just world.
This award recognizes students who demonstrate genuine care for others in their attitude, interaction, and involvement. These students consistently act with care toward others, while understanding the importance of self care.
This award recognizes students who embody academic excellence through achievement, preparedness, engagement and intellectual inquiry. These students take a leadership role within the classroom and in other academic endeavors, such as research, academic societies, mentoring and tutoring programs, etc.
This award recognizes students who celebrate the gifts of each person and create spaces where all people are respected and honored. These students lead others through intentional activities that create and celebrate diversity. Students show willingness to explore and make themselves vulnerable in order to challenge accepted societal norms.
This award recognizes students who are dedicated
in their spiritual life and whose faith informs their practice. These
students' involvement and leadership across campus is grounded in their
faith foundation. These students maintain strong personal convictions,
create spaces to encourage spiritual growth for others, and treasure the
many faith traditions of our university community.
This award recognizes students who care about justice for humans and all living things. These students are conscious of the far reaching effects of their actions and work for justice at the local and/or global level through direct service and social change, such as political action, community organizing, or advocacy.
This award recognizes students who make exceptional contributions to the community through leadership. These students help those they lead create a vision and move through change based on group values. These students lead within the framework of the university and other communities and makes positive contributions through intentional planning and effort.
As Seattle University's most prestigious honor, the Archbishop Raymond G. Hunthausen Award recognizes the culmination of our most treasured values. Awarded to two outstanding graduating students, one undergraduate and one graduate, it embodies integrity, faith, leadership and passion for learning. Most importantly, recipients live the Seattle University mission of being a “person for others”. We celebrate their gifts of service, justice, collaborative leadership and academic excellence to the University and global community.
