SSA Club members assist Grounds crew with Reinstallation of Veggie Garden Beds at Chardin

Extreme Gardening

Recently, gardeners Ben Williams and Patty Wright renovated the planters that line the south and west sides of the Student Center. Sounds like any other gardening task, except that these very narrow planters are hanging off the second floor of the building. Fall protection gear was in order and all operations were done "roped in". Its a very successful planting, with lots of native pollinator-friendly plants.
James "Ciscoe" Morris Biodiversity Garden gets a new meadow planting

A meadow planting was designed and installed by gardener Laura Schiltz, using colorful pollinator-friendly perennial amidst native and ornamental grasses. A gravel path leads you deeper into the garden where the pond and secluded lawn are a haven for birds and humans alike!
Saving Trees at Logan Field construction site
Six large evergreen trees were moved to new sites on campus from the southeast corner of Logan Field. Big Trees Inc was contracted to dig and transplant the trees. Their new homes are on the west side of Connolly and in the lot to the south of the Broadway Garage. In addition to the trees, the Grounds Dept salvaged many smaller plants that will be added to various landscapes throughout the campus. Here are some shots of the moving day.
