Admissions and Alumni Building
The A&A Building project is an addition and remodel for the Plasteel Frameshop on the southeast corner of 12th Avenue and Marion Street. The location is ideal for creating a signature campus marker at the main campus entrance. The new corner assembly space is tall and transparent for views across the street and up the hill to the SU campus and Seattle skyline. At night, the transparent 12th Avenue facade lights up the street corner and creates a lantern effect for this important campus intersection.
This project remodels the existing frameshop into an integrated work space for the Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, and Alumni Relations programs. The three programs are be grouped in work neighborhoods inside a large, open space with shared processing, meeting and support spaces.
In addition, the existing structure creates a new vestibule entry for the building, with the new office spaces on the south side and a new community center / living room space on the north side. The new assembly space is available for meetings and receptions by the Admissions and Alumni programs, the University, and the neighborhood community. The living room is a tall, elegant pavilion with adjacent kitchen and restrooms for all types of daytime and nighttime programming.
The remodel and addition is designed with prominent and visible sustainable design features and will be registered with the US Green Building Council with the goal of a LEED Gold rating.
