Why this summit? During academic convocation, diversity was identified as one of the key ‘wild cards’ as Seattle University moves towards an integrated Jesuit education for leadership. The racial composition of Seattle University faculty has transformed dramatically over the last decade. What is our faculty’s evolving understanding of diversity in areas such as curriculum; faculty climate; faculty hiring, retention, promotion & tenure; student climate; and overall multicultural competence? In this summit, faculty members from different niches on campus will begin an open conversation about each of these areas, in order to suggest paths for constructive change and institutional best practices. CSJS is pleased to sponsor this conversation, a critical faculty component of our justice mission.
, a civil rights icon, race scholar, law professor and former university administrator, will deliver a luncheon keynote address entitled: “WHAT'S DIVERSITY GOT TO DO WITH IT?: A Paraphrase of Tina Turner's Question.”
Who should attend? This summit is open to the entire Seattle University community; all faculty members and administrators are especially encouraged to attend.
