Center for Service and Community Engagement

"When the heart is touched by direct experience, the mind may be challenged to change. Personal involvement with the innocent suffering, with the injustice others suffer, is the catalyst for solidarity, which then gives rise to intellectual inquiry."

- Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.

So you're taking a service-learning course, and you need help with eServe. Contact Us! The Center for Service and Community Engagement is located in the Student Pavilion, Room 124. Call us at 206.296.2569 or email us at csce@seattleu.edu.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about signing up on eServe and finding a service site:

I want to get started, but I don't know where I want to serve.
Getting started early is a great idea because you have time to do some research on service sites to find the best fit for you and your course goals. Check out our Agencies We Work With page, or contact us to make an appointment, and we'll help you find a placement.

I know where I want to serve. How do I sign up?
Signing up on eServe takes less than 10 minutes! Visit eServe, log in with your SU username and password and follow the online tutorial. Or come in to the Center, and we'll walk you through it! If you are under 18, you will need to print the risk release for you parent or guardian to sign ad return to us.

I'm already serving at an agency, but I can't sign up on eServe.
It's great that you already have a service site! If you are unable to sign up on eServe, it's probably because the quarter is half over. Come in to the Center, and we'll sign you up! It only takes 10 minutes. If you call ahead to make an appointment we can get you signed up even faster.

The quarter is half-over and I haven't found a service site yet.

Call us for an appointment at as soon as you can! Starting this late will limit your choices of service sites, but there is still time to do your service-learning. You will need to come in to the Center for help signing up on eServe.

It's almost the end of the quarter, and I haven't started my service.

Check out the United Way of King County website for a list of volunteer opportunities. If you have special circumstances, call us for an appointment at as soon as you can!
