Immersion Trip Information

CSCE offers opportunities to explore social, cultural, and environmental issues affecting our regional communities through week-long immersions.  Each experience provides you with a different focus for serving and learning: students will connect with the community through work with service providers, engage in conversations with community leaders, and integrate their experiences through individual reflection and group discussion. The often life-changing moments that occur through immersions trips enable students to grow into a leaders who can address real community needs and create social change.

How to apply:

  • Read the Immersion Trip descriptions and make sure all your questions are answered. If you need additional information regarding a trip, contact Kelly Benkert - (206) 296-2327.

  • Fill out the online application.
  • Student leaders conduct interviews. Students who are selected to participate must demonstrate maturity, openness to new experiences, respect for the dignity of all people with whom we serve, and an ability to reflect upon the meaning of one’s service experiences.  CSCE staff and student leaders reserve the right not to accept students who do not demonstrate these qualities necessary for entering the community.
  • Cost: Immersion Trips are funded through participant fees that cover the cost of food, supplies, lodging, and transportation, ranging from $75 - $175, depending on the trip. However, financial assistance is available for those who need it, so please do not let the cost prevent you from applying. Kelly Benkert will work with Student Financial Services to determine how much of a fee waiver we are able to offer you.  A nonrefundable $30 deposit is due Friday, November 20, to reserve your spot on the immersion.  The remainder of your participant fee is due four weeks before your trip departure date and is also nonrefundable

If accepted, it is expected that all participants will attend mandatory group meetings. The group meetings are an opportunity to prepare for the service immersion by getting to know one another and beginning to learn about the issues we will be exploring through the immersion. Each immersion group will get together at least three times prior to your departure.
