The Center for Service and Community Engagement seeks to help students grow into ethical and effective leaders in the community. The Center offers the Student Leaders for the Common Good (SLCG) program as a way for undergraduate students to develop as leaders in service in our local communities and on campus. In the Jesuit tradition of holistic and experiential education, the SLCG program supports the growth of students in three areas:
Self-knowledge through reflection on one’s values, strengths, and areas of development. We hope to foster in students a lifelong commitment to the common good.
Skills for collaborative leadership by forming partnerships on campus and in the community that create quality service and learning experiences and address real community needs.
Capacity for developing relationships with the community by engaging with community agencies and underserved populations through a variety of approaches to service and systemic change.

Leadership in Service
SLCG members work in conjunction with CSCE staff to coordinate service programs, develop community partnerships, collaborate with campus partners, and lead their peers in service and reflection experiences.
Service in the Community
Consistent, sustained engagement at an agency provides the highest quality service for our community partners and the deepest learning opportunity for our students. SLCG members provide three hours of service per week (or 100 hours throughout the year) to a local community agency of their choice.
Community Nights and Retreats
SLCG members gather for Community Nights every other Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00pm for dinner, reflection, and skills development workshops. SLCG members also take part in two overnight retreats: one during fall quarter and one during spring quarter.
