"When the heart is touched by direct experience, the mind may be challenged to change. Personal involvement with the innocent suffering, with the injustice others suffer, is the catalyst for solidarity, which then gives rise to intellectual inquiry."

First Generation Project

The First Generation Project is a tutoring and mentoring program that supports high school students who may be the first in their families to attend college.

A team of 20 enthusiastic SU students, many of whom are first generation students, that help to prepare students for college and provide support through the admission, financial aid, and scholarship processes.

We also host local high school students to campus twice a year to give them a preview of their future college experience and to encourage them to pursue the college application process.

FGP mentors and tutors are paid positions! Applications for the 2009-2010 program will be available spring 2009.

For more information contact Carlito Umali at 206-296-2372 or visit www.seattleu.edu/csce

The First Generation Project is staffed by an AmeriCorps member provided through a partnership with Washington Campus Compact and College Spark.
