I Want to be a Leader

Just Serve

  • Just Serve is a student focused and student run program that is dedicated to social justice education, service, and building relationships between SU students and local high school students. Just Serve helps all involved students develop leadership skills, critical thinking skills, and supports all students in determining their future paths.

Through Social Justice Nights and Service Days (each twice per month,) Just Serve enables high school students to complete all the necessary service-learning hours to graduate. SU students and returning high school members plan and lead the social justice dialogues and activities, and build the partnerships for the service days.

The social justice programming addresses a variety of topics based on community feedback and student interest. All of Just Serve’s programming is interactive and engaging. All Transportation and food is provided for every event, and Just Serve is always free for high school students and SU students!

    •  Social Justice Committee: Students on this committee are responsible for planning and implementing the social justice nights that happen twice per month from January - May.  The topics range from poverty to gender equity to college access and everything in between!  On this committee, you'll learn skills for social justice education, planning, and facilitation.
    •  Outreach Committee:  Students on the Outreach Committee plan and lead the twice-monthly service days for Just Serve.  Serving together, high school students and SU students are able to build relationships and have fun, all while serving our community!  This committee also leads the high school recruitment efforts, so you'll get a chance to check out local youth-serving organizations and recruit some amazing young people for the program.
