The Center for Service and Community Engagement offers several faculty/staff cultural immersions modeled after the highly successful Nicaragua Immersion Experience.
Participants have the opportunity to understand the context of issues they hope to address through community-based research, service-learning courses and programs. Visits to temples and churches, non-profit organizations, and local businesses allow us to learn more about the needs and assets of the community in order to develop deep and meaningful long-term community partnerships.
By participating in an immersion, faculty get first hand knowledge of the challenges their students face when serving in the community.
"The immersion program was a wonderful experience. The opportunity for reflections with colleagues who share a passion for social justice was truly life giving and inspiring for me. I got more out of the experience than I could have anticipated." -Catherine Punsalan, Faculty
