    What is your role?

As Director of the Center for Service and Community Engagement and the Seattle University Youth Initiative, I oversee the development and implementation of our programs and partnerships.

What is your favorite part about working at the CSCE?

Hundreds of faculty, students, staff and community leaders are teaching, serving, leading and learning for a more just world.  They inspire me.  Through thoughtful and intentional collaborations, we can address the intractable social and environmental issues faced by our communities.

I am particularly excited about the Seattle University Youth Initiative.  The Initiative offers a long-term, focused approach to community engagement that promotes a shared vision of the local neighborhood and the SU campus.  The Initiative is leading to more interdisciplinary and cross-campus collaborations that deepen student learning and address important neighborhood issues.

What is your professional and educational background?

Earlier in my career, I worked as Executive Director of a non-profit K-12 community service organization and also served as a Program Director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University. I received my B.A. from Grinnell College and M.A. from Pacific School of Religion.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

My commitment to education, justice and spiritual discernment arises from parents; a preacher and a teacher.  My apple fell between the trees.
