Giving back, giving hope: A message from Seattle University United Way Campaign co-chairs

Kenneth was homeless and was losing hope. But things turned around when he was connected to permanent housing through a United Way of King County grantee. After he moved in, he also started taking part in on-site services, which helped him stop using drugs, regain stability and rebuild his life.

Since graduating from culinary school, Kenneth has been working as a prep cook at a restaurant. Without a home and a support system, none of it would have been possible.

Did you know that on any given night in King County, 9,000 people will face homelessness? Getting just one person off the streets is a huge accomplishment.  But the work isn't done.

United Way has a clear vision for solving community issues, including homelessness.  And when we all come together, we can make our community a safer and healthier place for everyone.

When you give to United Way, you help provide:

  • Emergency shelter and food distribution for homeless and hungry people.
  • Programs that help people overcome poverty and increase financial stability.
  • Parenting classes, support groups and home visits for moms and dads.
  • Programs that help youth graduate and be prepared for higher education, vocational education or employment.
  • Home care for older adults, including those with chronic illnesses, as well as exercise and wellness programs.
  • And so much more!

Did you know that an average of more than 98 cents of every dollar donated to United Way goes directly back to helping people in need? It's an efficient and effective investment in helping people like Kenneth and thousands more in our community.  Please give generously to our United Way campaign.   It's very safe and easy to donate online by following this link:

By using payroll giving option, you can make a one-time gift or leverage the power if a monthly contribution to United Way directly to from your paycheck.  You may not notice a small monthly amount but the cumulative effect it can have on our community is enormous!  Online pledges by debit or credit card are also easy to make. If you prefer, paper pledge forms are available from your United Way Ambassador.  Seattle University's campaign will run from Monday, October 22nd through Monday, November 5th.

This year's Seattle University Campaign Goal is $100,000 of donations, representing a 29% increase over last year's campaign. Together, there's nothing we can't do!
