Commencement Brunch

Graduates - Complimentary
Guests $25 per person (limit of 3 guests per graduate to accommodate as many graduates as possible.)

Seattle University Alumni Relations sponsors the Commencement Brunch to congratulate all graduates on your achievement and to celebrate our newest alumni. The brunch will be held on June 14, at 10:30 a.m. Invitations to the event will be mailed in early May to graduates. To register or for more details please go to Commencement Brunch Information.


Baccalaureate Mass
St. James Cathedral
Ninth Avenue and Marion Street
2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008

Students of all faiths and their families are invited and encouraged to participate in the Baccalaureate Mass. Tickets are not required for the Baccalaureate Mass, but seating is limited.

Robing: All degree candidates are to wear their caps, gowns, and hoods for the Baccalaureate Mass. A location to be determined will be open for robing at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Plan to arrive no later than 2:10 p.m. You may leave your coat safely in the hall, but please do not leave valuables or money.

Processional: The processional will begin at 2:30 p.m. with faculty members leading the group. For this event there is no precise marching order; simply line up two-by-two. Faculty marshals will direct you into pews and organize the recessional from the church.

Sunday Morning Mass

Fr. Mike Bayard, S.J. will celebrate a special 7am Mass the morning of graduation. This will allow graduates and their families to attend Mass and make it to Qwest in time for commencement.


Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony
Qwest Field

9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008

Arrival: Report to Qwest Field main entrance no later than 9:00 a.m. Proceed to the area designated for your school or college. No tickets are required for the ceremony. All are welcome. Take note we ask that all cell phones be turned off before entering the stadium.

Venue: Qwest Field is an outdoor venue, so check the weather report and dress accordingly. As a security measure, all bags will be checked upon entrance. No food or beverages of any kind are allowed. Note that concessions will be open on the main concourse of the stadium for the convenience of your guests.

Robing: Graduates are asked to arrive by 9:00 a.m. The ceremony should last approximately 2.5 hours.



Cap and Gown Information
Caps and gowns will be issued in the Seattle University Bookstore from May 27, 2008 through June 14, 2008 on the following schedule:
Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Please note that there will be no opportunity to pick up apparel before May 27 or after 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14. The caps, gowns and tassels are yours to keep at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Academic Hoods
If you are graduating with academic honors, your hood will be issued when you pick up your academic apparel name card at the Seattle University Bookstore. (May 27 - June 14)

Name Cards
When you pick up your cap & gown, you will receive a 3" x 5" card that bears your name. Bring the card to the Commencement ceremony; you will present it to your dean before you cross the stage. He/she will use it to announce your name as you receive your degree.

Photographs and Videos
While no individual photographers are allowed on the field level of the Qwest Field during the ceremony, the university engages a professional photographer who takes the picture of graduates as they receive their diplomas from the president. You will receive a mailing soon that will outline costs, delivery dates, ordering procedures, etc. Direct any questions regarding photography to: Bob Knight Photo 1-800-261-2576.

Beyond Graduation
A wide range of career counseling and job search services are offered through the Career Development Center, including help with making career decisions; assistance with resume writing, job-search planning, full-time job listings, and on-campus interviews with regional and national employers. Other services include a computerized career guidance program (SIGI PLUS); a career information library; and World Wide Web online resources.

Alumni Relations
There are many opportunities to stay in touch with your peers and Seattle University after graduation. The Alumni Relations Office coordinates many special social, professional and educational events that bring our alumni together.

Magis: Alumni Committed for Mission
Magis is a new initiative for alumni under the Office of Mission and Ministry and led by co-directors, Mike Bayard, S.J. and Erin Swezey. Through programs, events, seminars and a network of collaborative partnerships, Magis will foster a sense of connectedness and community among our alumni while engaging them in habits of lifelong learning, leadership, and service.
