Application Procedures
- Application packets are available through Seattle University Admissions Office. Deadlines for receipt of all application materials: October 1. Strong applicants may be considered after the deadline. Top
- Request that official Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (West-B) scores be sent to Seattle University Admissions Office. Information about the Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (West-B) (study guides, test dates, and location of test sites) is available from David Anderson, Professional Educator Standards Board, at (360) 725-6274 or on the web: http://www.pesb.wa.gov. - Distribute the recommendation forms and designated envelopes. NOTE: Recommenders are asked to seal and sign the envelopes near the flap before returning them. Top
- Complete the MIT prerequisite form located in the application packet and endorsement form (elementary or secondary) related to the level and subject for teaching. NOTE: Special Education Endorsement requirement met within the program. Top
- Compose a one-page, double-spaced autobiographical statement. Outline the motivation and commitment to teaching, prior applicable course work, experience with school-age students and understanding of cultural differences. Describe experience with young people or exceptional individuals, demonstrated by paid or volunteer work in classrooms, social service agencies, or other youth-associated activities. Top
- Complete the writing sample requirement at Seattle University. This 30 minute session on the Seattle University campus requires no specific preparation. Applicants should make reservations after mid-July; call (206) 296-2300. The location will be announced on the message after mid-July. Please note: The phone call qualifies as the confirmation. Writing sample sessions will be scheduled in September and must be completed prior to the deadline date. Top
- Selected applicants will be contacted approximately one month after the deadline date for a small-group interview.

Out-of-State applicants or those who will not be in the state for the interview process, also must arrange, by the deadline, to submit a video or audio tape to the MIT Program Office. For specifications on tape content, format, and length, contact MIT program Administrative Assistant at (206) 296-5759. Note: the autobiographical statement will be analyzed in place of the writing sample for applicants submitting a tape.
