She has a Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology/ School Psychology from Northern Arizona University. Her doctoral dissertation involved a program evaluation of a state-level behavioral initiative promoting schoolwide positive behavior supports across the state of Arizona. Dr. Tyre has five years of school-based experience as a school psychologist where she worked with impoverished school systems serving predominately Native American and Hispanic students in northern Arizona, and she also served as the director of a special needs preschool program. Dr. Tyre’s research interests focus on problem solving methods that enhance the effectiveness of multi-level systems of academic and behavior support in schools, specifically schoolwide positive behavior support and the response to intervention approaches. As a trainer of school psychologists, she has focused on fostering ethical decision making, culturally-fair assessment practices, and the use of positive behavioral supports, which are based on the core values of compassion for children with challenging behavior and a movement away from coercive educational practices. |
