School psychologists work with other professionals
and parents in the school environment to support
the healthy development of young children and
the adolescents. Employing a variety of assessment
procedures, they gather data for the decision-making
related to educational programming for students.
They design developmental, preventative, and
remedial interventions for children and adolescents. They
increasingly consult and collaborate with teachers,
parents, and multi-disciplinary teams to solve
problems and design programs that enhance students'
growth.
Using a scientist-practitioner training model, the school psychology program prepares students for an educational specialist degree and Washington State and national certification as a school psychologist. Ethical and moral decision-making in professional practice is emphasized. You learn through practice the collaborative skills needed to be an effective leader.
