New ELL Endorsement
Certified teachers and MIT teacher candidates can now complete an ELL Endorsement at Seattle University though our innovative new program designed to meet prospective students where they are. More information is available on the ExploreELL page.
MIT Candidates complete 9 post-baccalaureate credits (3 courses) during the summer prior to matriculation in the MIT program. 12 of the remaining 15 credits required for the endorsement are earned as part of the MIT coursework and the final 3 credits are completed as the elective requirement in the MIT program.
Certified teachers complete 24 post-baccalaureat credits (8 courses) over a 12 month period beginning in either June or January. Courses are offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings and an occasional Saturday during the year.
Information for Current Students
MIT students currently taking courses through S-TESL may continue to do so until June 30, 2013 and have the courses apply to their ELL endorsement. The S-TESL courses must be processed through SU. All coursework must be completed and graded by June 30, 2013, with the exception of the graduate project, which must be completed by July 30, 2013. After June 30, 2013, Seattle University will no longer accept new S-TESL courses towards graduate programs or endorsements. Prospective MIT students who received an S-TESL certificate in the last six years must contact the MIT program office at (206) 296-5759 before applying to determine if that coursework might be applied to the degree. For students in graduate programs other than MIT who have completed coursework at S-TESL, acceptance of those courses for graduate credit towards their degree must be approved by the student's advisor and Program Director. For students who will be taking S-TESL courses in the spring, click here for more information. If you have questions about completion of your endorsement through SU, please send questions to continuinged@seattleu.edu.
