The Professional Certification Program provides the course work and support required by the State of Washington for teachers to earn their advanced level of certification, the Professional Certificate. The 15-credit program provides instruction using a cohort model with small classes. It begins annually in January with the Preasssessment Seminar (3 credits) in which candidates design a Professional Growth Plan. This plan is implemented throughout the program with instruction and support from College of Education faculty and school district based educators.
Three program options are available: a Graduate Option, a Post-Master's Continuing Education Option, and an Advanced Track Option.

Courses in the Graduate Option (either 3 or 6 credits) can be applied to several master's degrees in the College of Education: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration (including the Principal's or Program Administrator's Certificate), Literacy for Special Needs (including the Reading Endorsement), and Special Education (including the Special Education Endorsement). The 9 'core' credits required for the Professional Certificate are taken from one of the master's degree programs in the College of Education and are offered at the Professional Certification Program tuition rate of $300 per credit.
Top The Post-Master's Continuing Education Option is designed for teachers who already hold a master's degree. The program is completed in approximately 1 1/2 school years, with participants remaining in their cohorts for the entire program. Classes are held on campus and in partner school districts. Tuition is $150 each for all 15 credits.

The Advanced Track Option is designed for teachers who have five or more years teaching experience out of state. Participants in this program option take the Preassessment Seminar (3 credits) and then independently collect evidence of meeting the state required standards and criteria for the Professional Certificate. The portfolio must be successfully completed within one school year following the Preassessment Seminar. Tuition is $450 for the Preassessment Seminar and a $150 reader's fee paid upon completion of the portfolio.
