Admission Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0. (Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may still be admitted on a probationer basis).
      
  2. Passing scores on both the WEST B and WEST E tests. (If you are not able to complete the tests prior to the application deadline, you may still submit your application. Be sure to indicate your planned test date in an attached cover letter and include a copy of your registration confirmation. If you are accepted, the University must receive official passing test scores prior to the start of the program).
      
  3. Completed Endorsement Verification Form.
      
  4. One-page, double-spaced, autobiographical statement*, outlining commitment to teaching; applicable coursework; experience with K-12 students, (including exceptional individuals) and understanding of cultural differences. Applicants need to demonstrate that they have experience with young people in a setting that promotes skills transferable to a K-12 classroom. Examples include observation and assistance in a K-12 setting, working with school aged students at a summer camp, volunteering at a tutoring program, and/or experience leading youth groups at a place of worship.   5. Two signed and sealed recommendations from those who can address applicant's experience with young people in a setting that promotes skills transferable to a K-12 classroom. If the recommenders have not observed the applicant’s performance in a K-12 setting, they must be able to address the skills and dispositions demonstrated in the applicant’s interactions with youth that are transferable to a K-12 classroom. Recommendations from university faculty who have not observed the applicant working with youth, preferably in a K-12 setting, are discouraged. Recommendations are required to be submitted using the recommendation form that is included in the application packet. However, recommenders are welcome and encouraged to submit a written statement or letter as a supplement to this form. 
     
  6. Thirty-minute writing sample* done onsite at Seattle University. Several writing sample dates are scheduled in the month prior to the application deadline. Please call 206-296-2300 to for dates, times, and locations. Out-of-state applicants: The autobiographical statement will be evaluated as your writing sample.
      
  7.  For International Applicants: You must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language to be admitted into the MIT Program. A TOEFL score of 580 (92 internet-based or 237 computer-based score) or higher for any applicant for any applicant for whom English is not the native language. Equivalent MELAB and IELTS scores are also accepted to determine English proficiency.
     
  8. Selected applicants will be contacted approximately one month after the application deadline for a small group interview with faculty. Out-of-state applicants: If you cannot attend an interview, you must submit a video or audiotape to the MIT program office. * Both the autobiographical statement and the writing sample are evaluated on the basis of content and proper use of grammatical conventions.
