Overview
Students face many challenges as they develop into readers and writers. The Literacy for Special Needs Program prepares literacy specialists to meet a complex array of learning needs through research-based best practices. This program blends coursework in literacy and special education to provide a learning experience unique among graduate programs in the Puget Sound region. Students who wish to enter the program must be experienced teachers who hold a Washington State teaching certificate.
“The Literacy for Special Needs program provides more than just the knowledge to teach reading. It prepares us to engage young people in literacy that connects them to the world.”
- Damion Heintschel, Graduate
