The Educational Leadership Doctoral Program (EDLR) is a practiced-based degree that meets the needs of today's leaders. Established in1976, the program has a distinguished reputation for producing leaders who are making a difference in our world including chancellors and college presidents, award-winning superintendents and principals, and leaders in business, non-profit organizations and the government. Is an Ed.D Right for You?
Professionals who seek an Ed.D are experienced leaders who want to improve their effectiveness so they can address the changing needs of their organization. They want a practiced-based degree where they can take what they learn and immediately apply it to their work environment. They are often mid-level managers who come from wide range of occupations. Each year we select a quality group of leaders from diverse fields for our new cohort. This intensive professional learning community supports each member throughout the three-year program. About the Program
This program is designed for the working professional. Some may be able to complete it in as little as three years – most take four years. On average, 85% of each cohort completes all requirements for an earned doctorate.The program is designed for the working professional and offers flexibly scheduled courses, coupled with learning modules that are offered at a variety of times and formats. Informing the first three years of program study are the themes:the leader as self, the leader in organizations and the leader in a global and interdependent world. The development of research skills begins at the onset and occurs throughout the program to hep students progress smoothly through dissertation completion. Concentrations provide a focus for each of our students and make the program relevant to their industry. Concentrations include:
- General – concentrations available for individuals from a wide variety of professional fields to include healthcare, business, non-profit and public administration.
- Adult, Post-Secondary and Higher Education – for current or future higher education leaders who would gain additional expertise in education finance and law, instructional leadership, adult learning and student development.
- Superintendent – for individuals in school or school district leadership positions who wish to advance their career; meets Washington State requirements for superintendent certification.
- Principal – for aspiring school leaders who wish to move into leadership roles; meets Washington State requirements for principal certification.
- Program Administrators – for K-12 instructional leaders preparing for district-level positions in curriculum, special education, professional development and other areas.
