A letter to our students about the WA State marriage equality bill

Dear Students,

As a program grounded in social justice, the faculty in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology would like to take a moment to acknowledge Governor Christine Gregoire’s signing into law landmark legislation on marriage equality in Washington. Recognizing marriage equality is a step in the right direction. This legislation marks a significant milestone for equal rights and it aligns with our program’s mission of creating a more “just and humane world.” The marriage equality bill (SB 6239) would not have come to fruition without the hard work of thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex individuals and allies (LGBTIA). We believe the marriage equality legislation strengthens the important work we do with LGBTIA individuals, families, and community members in both school and community settings. Let’s take a moment to celebrate this significant milestone!

Signed,
SU Counseling and School Psychology Faculty
