Program Overview
Seattle University Children's Literacy Project (CLP) recruits,
trains, and places volunteer tutors in local Seattle schools. Our aim
is to foster the academic support and encouragement children need to
succeed and thrive. Tutors work on-site in schools to help children
become better readers, meet academic performance standards, build basic
skills, and increase their self-esteem and their motivation to learn.
We place volunteers in eight schools, located near campus in Seattle’s
Central District: Bailey-Gatzert Elementary, Thurgood Marshall
Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Madrona K-8, St. Therese, St. George
Parish School, and Washington Middle School. Volunteers work in the
schools during school hours to help students to become better readers,
to improve academic performance, and to increase self-esteem and
motivation to learn.
New volunteers are required to attend a training session prior to volunteering. Please contact our office to register for one of the following sessions. (206) 296-6411 clp@seattleu.edu
