Volunteer Opportunities
Regular Volunteer Program: The Children's Literacy Project is looking for volunteers to provide academic support to youth in our partner schools. Opportunities are available throughout the school day (anytime between 7:45 AM and 3:00 PM) and/or during after school programs (3:30 - 5:30 PM). Tutoring arrangements and learning activities vary from site to site: some of our volunteers tutor one-to-one; some tutor small groups; and some work within classrooms. The academic emphasis is on literacy, although this typically overlaps with a broad range of educational and emotional support needs, such as helping students with writing and math, assisting students with homework, or providing individual support and encouragement for a child facing a variety of personal and academic challenges. A minimum commitment of one hour per week for three months is required of all volunteers.
Volunteers must attend a tutor orientation training session
prior to being placed in our partner schools.
