History
The Children’s Literacy Project was created in 1990 to commemorate Seattle University’s centennial anniversary, and to express our Jesuit tradition of service. What began as a small cadre of 17 student volunteers tutoring in a few sites has grown to over 300 volunteers a year in eight schools. Since 1990, over 6,000 Children's Literacy Project volunteers have provided 81,315 hours of tutorial assistance to over 18,000 at-risk students in local schools. The goals of the Children's Literacy Project are in complete alignment with the University’s mission; the CLP is “creating a more just and humane world” through its actions in the community.
