educators establish a structured and orderly classroom environment that fosters increased levels of student performance and academic achievement. Attendees will learn that prevention is the key to management. Specific strategies for setting up a management system that improves the behavior of all stufents will be reviewed. Specific concepts covered will include:
- Developing positive student relations is the key to establishing effective discipline
- The four critical components of a prevention based approach to classroom management
- Responding effectively to minor classroom disruptions
- Responding effectively to serious classroom rule violations
- Propagating honesty after student rule violations

The Systems concept is a unifying theme for integrating science disciplines and restructuring science curricula. This presentation will explain how to identify Systems by their structures, to describe structures by their properites, and to explain and analyze the functions and changes within systems in terms of inputs an doutputs of energy and matter. Methods of teaching students how to investigate a system and to write a conclusion will be examined. Participants will find opportunities to supplement their published instructional materials by applying this "Systems Perspective."

Presenters will share test and best practices information gatherered from WASL Item Writing Committees, Scoring Committees and other various OSPI-sponsored events.

This workshop will provide district/building level administrators and teacher leaders an overview of the core principles of Response to Intervention. Critical questions will be answered regarding general education's implementation of RTI in all academic areas and in addressing behaviors within the academic setting. Administrators will understand the relaltionship of RTI and other federal, state and local initiatives aimed at closing the achievement gap and learn step-by-step practical strategies for applying RTI on a district or school-wide basis. This workshop is appropriate for administrators and teacher leaders who work with children in preschool through high school. Participants will also hear from a variety of local practicioners to obtain a clearer vision ofwhat RTI looks like in practice and especially in Puget Sound districts.
