Dr. Joshua Garcia Recognized for ASCD Outstanding Contributions to Education
Congratulations to Dr. Joshua Garcia, EDLR '05, for being recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Educators from ASCD this year. Dr. Garcia is the deputy superintendent of Tacoma School District. He was chosen because of his outstanding leadership, passion and commitment to educating the whole child at the most recent ASCD conference in Chicago, IL, from March 16 - 18, 2013.
College of Education Alumnus, Steve Looney, inducted into Seattle U Athletics Hall of Fame
Congratulations to College of Education alumnus, Steve Looney, who was inducted into the SU Athletic Hall of Fame this week. Looney played on the Seattle University men's basketball team from 1964 to 1968! Looney averaged 12.1 points per game as he collected 907 career points. He played in the historic game in 1966 when Seattle U handed Texas Western its only loss on the way to its 'Glory Road' national championship.
Looney helped Seattle U to an 18-8 record in 1966-67 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Looney was induced with five other Redhawks into the Seattle U Athletics Hall of Fame at a luncheon Saturday, February 2, 2013.
Majorie Richards, Recognized as a Person With Passion and Purpose by the Seattle Center
Adult Education and Training graduate, Marjorie Richards, was one
of 25 people selected by the Seattle Center as a person with passion
and purpose. She works with adult immigrant refugees and recently
produced a video in which several tell their moving stories about how
