Adult as Learners

The master's degree program in adult education and training prepares individuals for teaching adult learners, especially as corporate trainers for business and nonprofit organizations; as adult basic education instructors in schools, colleges, and universities; and as instructors in programs for English as a second language. After gaining teaching experience, some individuals will become educational program managers. This degree program provides practical and theoretical components:

  • The fundamental nature of adult education and its historical context.
  • The philosophical and sociological foundations of adult education, including ethics and social justice.
  • Overview of educational research.
  • The distinctive nature of adult learners with differing needs, preferences, and styles, with an emphasis on how these combine to shape professional practice in the delivery of adult educational programs.
  • The management of adult education programs: planning, development, design, delivery, and evaluation.
