Admission Requirements: Master in Adult Education & Training (AEDT)

  • Request an application packet, download the application forms or submit your application online from the Graduate Admissions website.
  • Applications are accepted each quarter. Deadlines for receipt of application materials are: Fall Quarter – July 20; Winter Quarter – November 20; Spring Quarter – February 20; and Summer Quarter – May 20.
  • Request official transcripts sent to the applicant or directly to Seattle University from all colleges and universities attended, documenting the last 90 quarter credit hours of a bachelor’s degree (60 semester credit hours) and all completed post-bachelor’s work. If mailed to applicant, transcripts must remain in sealed envelopes.
  • For applicants with a GPA below 3.0, official scores from the GRE or MAT exams taken within the last five years must be sent directly to Seattle University from the scoring agency.
  • Send two recommendations from recent supervisors in the envelopes provided in the application packet, sealed and signed across the flap.
  • Submit completed College of Education Self-Assessment form.
  • Submit documentation of one year’s full-time work experience.
  • Submit a statement of purpose: In one to two, single-spaced typed pages describe how your past experiences suggest that a degree or certificate in adult education and training will fit into your future plans. If you are applying for the master's degree program, explain which of the three specializations within the program are appropriate to your future plans, and describe how that specialization within the adult education and training program will connect your past experiences to your future plans. If you are applying for the post-master's degree certificate in community college instruction, explain how your existing master's degree and this certificate will fit into your future plans to teach at a community college.
  • Send the completed application form and the supporting documents, with the application fee, to the Graduate Admissions office. Note that the entire application process may be completed online (access and instructions are provided on the Graduate Admissions website).

 International Students

International students are welcome to apply to the Adult Education and Training program. However, they have additional application requirements.

    • Transcripts: If not originally in English, transcripts must be submitted in both the original language and a certified English translation.
    • Applicants seeking an F-1 student visa must also submit a Declaration of Finances form.
    • Applicants for whom English is a non-native language must demonstrate English proficiency. A minimum TOEFL score of 580 (92 internet-based or 237 computer-based score) or higher is required for admission. Equivalent MELAB (83%) and IELTS (7.0) scores are also acceptable. Admission through the Culture and Language Bridge program is not an option.
    • Application deadlines: In order to allow for application processing, overseas mailings and visa processing, international applicants living overseas should submit an application six months prior to the quarter they wish to enroll or the program deadline, whichever is earlier. Students who submit complete applications before the following dates will receive priority consideration:
      • Fall Quarter - April 1
      • Winter Quarter - September 1
      • Spring Quarter - December 1
      • Summer Quarter - January 1
